Maria Eichwald
Lead Dancer
 
Maria was born in Talgar, Kazakhstan, and received her training at the Ballet Academy in Alma- Ata, Kazakhstan. She had her first engagement at the National Ballet in Kazakhstan. In 1994, she became a Principal Dancer in Mönchengladbach, and in 1996, she joined the Bavarian State in Munich, where she was quickly promoted from Corps de ballet dancer to Soloist.
In her first season in Munich, she danced solo roles as Olga in Onegin, the second movement in Symphony in C (Balanchine), the blue bird in Sleeping Beauty. As a Soloist, she was dancing the role of Olympia in the premier of the Lady of the Camelias (John Neumeier) and soon made her début in the leading role. In March 1998, she danced as Nikija in the second premier of La Bayadére and later on as Helena in John Neumeier's Midsummer Night's Dream, and as Odette/ Odile in Swan Lake. She was promoted to Principal dancer in summer 1999.
 
Maria Eichwald joined the Stuttgart Ballet in the 2003/ 04 as Principal Dancer and has since danced leading roles in works such as Giselle, a production of Reid Anderson and Valentina Savina, and in Itzik Galili's Hikarizatto.
Eichwald has danced in various international galas and festivals in Spain, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Egypt, France, China, India, Cuba and Denmark.
